Slash commands are coming, a new vanity bot, and discovery joins that work

greed·

greed is moving to slash commands

Discord is pushing bots towards slash commands, so greed is going to switch from prefix commands (,blur) to / commands. Nothing changes yet — every prefix command keeps working exactly as it does today. We're announcing it early so nobody is caught off guard.

What's planned

Discord only allows a bot 100 slash commands, and greed has well over 400. So related commands are being grouped together, with autocomplete to find what you need:

TodayAfter the switch
Image effects — ,blur, ,invert, …/image blur, /image invert, …
Meme templates — ,drake, ,pooh, …/manipulate drake, /manipulate pooh, …
Roleplay — ,hug, ,kiss, …/interact hug, /interact kiss, …
Economy — ,daily, ,balance, …/eco daily, /eco balance, …
Server settings/configure (already available)

Commands that already have a slash version keep the same name. The rest — moderation, utility and others — are still being planned, and every new name will be announced before the switch.

None of the new slash commands above are available yet. Keep using prefix commands until we announce the switch date.

How we're preparing

  • Occasional heads-ups. Every so often, after you use a prefix command, greed posts a small card telling you what that command will become, with a link to the announcement. It's rare — at most once a week per person and once every half hour per channel — so it won't get in the way.
  • /configure already covers every server setting, so most setup can be done with slash today.
  • Commands are being regrouped now, so the switch is a rename for you rather than relearning greed.

Discovery

  • The Join button works. greed now creates a permanent invite for your listing automatically (or uses your vanity URL) and checks it every day, so visitors no longer hit a dead button or an "Invalid invite". greed needs the Create Invite permission in a text channel for this.
  • See your invite status in ,discovery status, in /configure, and on the dashboard's Discovery page — including a clear message if greed is missing the permission it needs.
  • Fairer ordering. Servers bumped within the same hour take turns at the top, rotating every day, so bumping a few minutes earlier no longer wins outright. Listings that haven't been bumped in 14 days appear after active ones, and featured placement ends when its feature period does.
  • Listings with no invite show "No invite yet" instead of a button that does nothing, and appear after the others.
  • Servers greed has left are hidden from discover until greed is added back.
  • The Members sort now actually sorts by member count, search shows the right number of results, and server names and icons stay up to date.

Vanity rewards have moved to a new bot

Vanity rewards (giving roles to members who put your server in their status) now run on a new bot. The old vanity bot, lure, can no longer read statuses, so if it's the one in your server, vanity rewards stop until you invite the new one.

  • Run ,vanity in your server. If the new bot is missing, greed tells you and gives you the invite link. /configure shows the same notice.
  • Your settings carry over. The pattern, roles, channel and thank-you message all stay exactly as you set them. Nothing needs to be reconfigured.
  • Once the new bot is in, you can kick the old one. Until then, the old bot's status points you here.
