Server Configuration

Auto Roles

Give every new member a set of roles the moment they join.

Overview

Auto roles are handed out automatically when someone joins your server. They're the usual way to give everyone a baseline member role, colour, or access to your general channels without anyone having to click anything.

Requirements

  • Your permission: Manage Roles.
  • greed's permission: Manage Roles, with its highest role above every auto role.

,autorole is a prefix-only command group.

Adding Auto Roles

,autorole add (roles)

You can pass several roles in one command — each one is added separately, and any role greed can't assign is skipped rather than failing the whole command. ,autorole add also answers to ,autorole a and ,autorole create.

greed refuses to auto-assign roles that carry dangerous permissions — Administrator, Manage Roles, Ban Members and similar. Every new member would inherit them, so the guardrail cannot be bypassed. Roles above greed's own highest role are rejected too.

Managing Auto Roles

  • ,autorole list — show the configured auto roles (aliases: ,autorole ls, ,autorole show).
  • ,autorole remove (roles) — stop auto-assigning one or more roles (aliases: delete, del, rem).
  • ,autorole clear — remove every auto role at once (alias: reset).
  • ,autorole on its own — show the command list.

Removing a role from the auto role list does not take it away from members who already have it. Auto roles only apply at the moment someone joins.
